NOHS Senior Emily Statzer is leadership in action!
Emily is President of NOHS Student Council and worked with her fellow high school students and teachers
Charlie Sexstella and Amanda Hynes to bring 85 students in grades 4 – 8 to the
High School on 4/13/2018 for a day of leadership training.
The students started with an icebreaker activity and shared lunch
before rotating through four workshop stations: public speaking, collaboration,
school spirit, and student council – what is it.
Students learned that public speaking is hard but is a big part of
running an assembly or organizing an activity and you need to be prepared. Looking like a human pretzel, students participated
in a collaborative activity to untangle themselves without dropping hands. High
school leaders demonstrated how to boost school spirit and have fun with a
series of cheers. The National Arts Honor Society painted faces and the high
school students had fun teaching the younger students games to use during a pep
rally or how to organize a community day of giving.
On a beautiful spring afternoon the back gym was full of our
future leaders building a foundation for our younger future leaders to get
involved in a positive way in their school to make it a place of pride and
