Clubs and Activities

At Chestnut, we have wonderful activities and clubs for the students to participate throughout the year.

Band & Orchestra- Open to all interested students in 5th & 6th grade. The Instrumental Sessions are held throughout the morning, before lunch. If you are interested please see Mrs. Birney.

Bowling Club- The Bowling Club is open to all grade levels. Buckeye Lanes, in North Olmsted, arranges for transportation to leave from Chestnut School on the scheduled Monday afternoons. There is a weekly fee, and parents are responsible for transportation home from the bowling alley. (Information is distributed in the fall.)

Choir- Chestnut Intermediate School offers the opportunity, at each grade level, to join a choir. Fourth grade students have the opportunity to join the “Black & Orange” choir, and the “Eagle” choir is comprised of fifth and sixth grade students. Students meet throughout the week, before school, at 7:30 a.m. Chestnut’s choirs have the opportunity to “showcase” their talents several times throughout the year, under Mrs. Birney’s direction.

4th R- “The 4th R Program is a tutoring/mentoring program to help your child work on academic, behavioral, organizational, and/or study skills. North Olmsted High School students come to Chestnut to help our teacher-referred students to be more successful in these areas.” Our guidance counselor, Mr. Luttner, supervises the 10 week program each semester. Students will be selected based upon needs and teacher recommendation.

Running Club- The Running Club is open to all grade level students at Chestnut, who have a serious interest in running. Students will learn proper running techniques, increase their cardiovascular endurance, and understand the importance of being physically active for life. For supervision purposes, only the first 20 students in each grade level who return their signed permission slips will be allowed to participate. Students meet twice a week, after school in the spring, to safely run the 1-mile course behind the school.

Ski Club- Mrs. Campbell, along with her ski and snowboarding “team”, will supervise students from the three North Olmsted Intermediate Schools, throughout the winter, as weather permits. Transportation to the slopes will be provided by chartered motor coach, with students returning to the Middle School for parental pick-up. (Information is distributed in late fall.)

Student Council- Chestnut‘s Student Council, under the direction of Mrs. Birney, is comprised of all grade leveled students, working together to support our school and community. Election for the next year’s Executive Officers is held in the spring. The positions are filled by upcoming 5th & 6th graders. Each class, in the fall, elects a class representative and alternate, to attend monthly meetings. Chestnut’s Student Council keeps very busy throughout the year operating “The Book Store; sponsoring dances; organizing food drives; “Talent Show”; and assisting the school and community when called upon.
