CLASSROOM LESSONS

Grades 1-3
The latest lesson continued a focus on“getting the facts first.  Students listened to a story called,Mr. Peabody’s Apples.  Mr. Peabody’s Applestakes place in 1949 inHappville,USA.  One Saturday, Mr. Peabody, the beloved elementary school teacher and baseball coach, finds himself all alone on the baseball field. He wonders where everybody is until he sees the bat boy, Billy Little, walking toward him with a sad look on his face. Billy tells him that another student, Tommy Tittlebottom, spread a rumor that Mr. Peabody was a thief after Tommy saw Mr. Peabody taking apples twice from the local market.

Mr. Peabody then shows Tommy that what matters is the truth — not how things appear — and teaches him an unforgettable lesson about how we must choose our words carefully to avoid causing harm to others and get the facts first.

Thank you to everyone who donated to theLeukemia and Lymphoma Society. Our original goal was to raise $500. We surpassed this on the first day. After a week of collections, a total of $2,268 was raised. This is an amazing amount. Thank you again for your generous gifts to the young heroes who suffer with this condition.

STRING TRICK CLUB
Once a month, students may participate in the String Club
during their recess. So far, students have learned various tricks including the magic hand trick, witches broom, mosquito, and parachute. Children have asked me where they could purchase a string. I purchased mine on the following website: stringfigurestore.com. However, I purchased my first string along with a book called Cat’s Cradle, by Klutz. This book includes the basic tricks along with a string.
Another book I would recommend is Cat’s Cradle String Games, by Camilla Gryski. This book includes the basic and more advanced tricks. However, this one does not include a string.
